Full size notes: The Kawanishi N1K Kyôfû or "Strong Wind" was the Japanese carrier based version of the land based Kawanishi N1K-J Shiden or "Violet Lightning" fighter and entered service in 1944. The Kawanishi N1K proved to be a highly effective and heavily armed fighter, codenamed by the allies as the George, it played an important role in the Pacific theatre during the later part of WW2, fortunately for the allied forces there was insufficient numbers of the aircraft to reverse the direction of the war only 415 fighters being built, a direct result of American bombers on the factories producing it and it's ancillary equipment. |
